PaleoArchivo
An interactive encyclopedia of prehistoric life, 113 animals
aleoArchivo is a free interactive encyclopedia covering prehistoric life from the Cambrian explosion (520 Ma) to the Holocene. Each of the 113 animals has a full technical sheet including fossil conservation data, geological era, diet, dimensions, discovery method, biological rivalries with other species, and indexed scientific literature.
Hi everyone! 👋
I built PaleoArchivo because I couldn't find a visually modern, well-designed resource for prehistoric life that went beyond dinosaurs. Most encyclopedias stop at the Cretaceous — I wanted something that covered the full story, from the Cambrian explosion to the Holocene, including mammals, fish, arthropods, and everything in between.
I started with 25 animals and kept adding. It now has 113 across 16 geological periods, each with a full technical sheet, fossil conservation data, biological rivalries, and indexed scientific literature via OpenAlex.
The stack is React + Vite + TailwindCSS on the frontend and Node.js + MongoDB on the backend. It also works as an Android APK via Capacitor.
Would love to hear your feedback — especially if you're into paleontology or science communication! 🦕
