PageFlow
Native Mac PDF reader and Markdown editor, minus the clutter
PageFlow is a free, open-source native macOS app that reads and annotates PDFs and edits Markdown notes, side by side in the same tabs and windows. PDFs get highlights, underlines, comments and bookmarks; Markdown notes get a live preview, tables edited in place, LaTeX math, Mermaid diagrams and comments stored inside the note. No analytics, no telemetry, no account, and no network requests of its own.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I’m Pinchen, a physics student and the maker of PageFlow.
If you study physics or another STEM subject, you know how much time goes into reading PDFs: textbooks, papers, lecture notes. You highlight a passage, work through an equation, and write down what finally made it click.
I was tired of doing that inside Adobe Acrobat. To me, it felt bloated for something so simple. I wanted a clean window, my document, and tools that stayed out of the way until I needed them.
So I built PageFlow.
It started as a minimalist PDF reader with a hidden toolbar. But reading usually leads to writing, so it grew into a native Mac workspace where PDFs and Markdown notes live in the same tabs and windows.
Today, you can:
• Highlight, underline, and comment on PDFs.
• Write Markdown with live preview, LaTeX equations, Mermaid diagrams, and editable tables.
• Export a PDF page, section, or whole document to Markdown.
• Open files directly from your existing folders and work offline.
PageFlow is free and open source. No account, no subscription.
Throughout development, the question has stayed the same: how much interface can I remove while keeping the tools people actually need?
Try it with a paper you’re reading and a note you’re working on. What’s the one thing your current PDF reader or writing app does that gets in your way?
