Offstage
One window lit. The rest of your Mac goes quiet.
Offstage is a menu bar app that keeps the window you're using lit and lets every other window recede: dimmed, blurred or faded, in a warmth you choose. A soft spotlight follows your click. Hold ⌥ to peek. No account, no tracking. $6.99 once.
Hi Product Hunt,
I'm Adam, and Offstage is a small Mac app I made for a crowded screen.
My screen is a crowded room. Mail, a team chat, eleven tabs, and somewhere in the middle the window I actually came to work in. I didn't want to close anything or lock myself out of anything. I just wanted the rest of the room to be a bit quieter.
Offstage started life as a little utility with three sliders: dim, blur, tint. It worked, but it felt like a settings panel. So I rebuilt it around a stage and a camera:
The window you're using is on stage, lit by a soft spotlight that glides with you when you click somewhere else.
One Aperture dial, ƒ/1.4 (a whisper) to ƒ/16 (lights out), with a detent at every stop.
Three lenses for the rest: ND dims it, Soft blurs it, Grad fades it from the top.
Light in Kelvin, from blue hour to candlelight, or let it follow the sun. A fine film grain keeps it soft.
Looks: Deep Work, Reading, Night, Studio, one keystroke each.
And because the worry with any focus tool is "what if I miss something?", nothing is hidden: hold ⌥ to peek at everything, call an Intermission for 15 minutes, an hour or until tomorrow, and it steps aside by itself for calls, slides and fullscreen video.
At the end of the day, Focus Film shows your time as strips of film. Deep takes glow amber. No scores, nothing in red, and it never leaves your Mac.
Private by design: no account, no tracking, no network connections. It never records your screen or reads what's inside your windows.
It's $6.99, once, on the Mac App Store, for macOS 14 and later. No subscription.
I built it for my own writing mornings.
I'd love to know: which Look would you make first? And if something feels off on your setup (ultrawide, three displays, Stage Manager), tell me here and I'll be in the comments all day.

Who hunted Offstage?
Offstage was hunted by Adam Mortka. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
