Nini
A phone number for seniors to call for help with daily life.
Nini is a phone-based AI assistant for seniors and their caregivers. One number handles it all: appointments, reminders, rides, groceries, prescription refills, and the small daily tasks that pile up. Nini coordinates services, answers questions, and keeps your family in the loop, lifting the mental load of caregiving. No apps to download, no logins, no learning curve. Just a phone call or text, using something seniors already know how to use.
Hey everyone 👋
I wanted to build Nini because of my mom (yes that's her name!).
She's a widowed senior in her 60s living on her own, far from my siblings and me. Like a lot of older adults, she struggled to keep up with how quickly technology changed. Simple things many of us take for granted became stressful: booking appointments, arranging rides, ordering groceries, logging into accounts, learning new apps, even sending a text the right way.
So naturally, she'd call me or my siblings for help throughout the day.
At first, it seemed small. But over time, I noticed something that really stuck with me. She started feeling like a burden.
She hated constantly needing to follow up with us while we were busy with work and our own lives. And honestly, I hated that feeling too, it broke my heart watching her lose confidence in herself.
She needed an assistant. Someone always available. Someone patient. Something simple and easy to pick up.
Then one day it hit me: seniors already know how to use the most universal interface in the world, a phone call!
Not an app.
Not a login.
Not another password to remember!
Just good old-fashioned: pick up the phone, dial a number, and talk.
That's what makes Nini different.
It works through a phone number seniors can call or text from anywhere. No downloads, no learning curve, no needing perfect tech literacy, and not even needing mobile data or 5G in many cases. If someone knows how to make a phone call, they already know how to use Nini.
I hacked together an early version for my mom, and something unexpected happened. She started feeling confident again.
Instead of feeling like she had to constantly rely on us, she suddenly had her own assistant she could call anytime for help with appointments, reminders, groceries, rides, refills, or everyday questions. Meanwhile, my siblings and I could check in behind the scenes and make sure everything was okay.
Then she started telling her friends about it.
Next thing I knew, they all wanted one too.
That's when I realized this was much bigger than just helping my mom.
I called my friend Fahyik. He immediately got it. He's built voice agents before and previously co-founded a startup connecting seniors with companions, so he already knew the ins and outs of building for this audience. We're co-founders now, on a mission to give our parents the AI experience they deserve.
Together, we pushed to build and launch Nini in under two weeks, just in time for Mother's Day.
We still have a lot to improve, but we're incredibly excited to finally share this with the world. ❤️
