n8n Export & Migration Utility
Recover and migrate n8n flows. No CLI. No running n8n.
Free desktop app to export and import n8n workflows and credentials between SQLite databases and remote n8n instances. Cross-instance migration without spinning up the source n8n.
Hey everyone, David here.
I built n8n Export Wizard because I needed it. I had a database.sqlite from an old n8n instance I couldn't easily resurrect, and my workflows were in there somewhere, but the n8n CLI wants a running instance to talk to. The official recovery path was: rebuild the environment, point the CLI at it, then export. For a backup file that had been sitting in cloud storage for months, that was a lot of yak-shaving for a one-time recovery.
So I built a Windows + macOS GUI app that reads the SQLite directly. Pick a database file, see every workflow and credential, click Export. Workflow JSON pastes straight into the n8n editor canvas, imports via "Import from File", or works with n8n import:workflow. Credentials export as the encrypted blob (same-instance restore) or, with the source encryption key, decrypted JSON that imports cleanly with n8n import:credentials on a target running a different key.
It does the migration side too: connect to a running n8n via the Public API, push workflows directly into another instance, batch-import JSON files. But the "I have a SQLite and no running n8n" recovery use case is the part I really needed, and that's the part I'm proudest of.
Free for personal and corporate use. Windows builds are code-signed via Microsoft's Azure Trusted Signing. macOS builds shipping shortly. Source code is commercially licensed if anyone needs that.
What I'd love from you:
- Bug reports, especially around credential decryption on different n8n versions
- Edge cases I haven't thought of (folders, archived workflows, weird credential schemas)
- "I wish it also did X" feedback before v1.x feature lock
I'll be hanging out in the comments all day. Thanks for taking a look.
