Music Dawn is a recorder made for musicians. Record an idea in one tap, hear it with a finished sound right away, and keep every take in one library on all your devices. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. Free, with optional Pro.
I've designed and built apps since 2001, for iPhone since 2009, mostly for other companies. In 2025 I decided to go back to making things my own way.
I'm also a musician. For years every song idea I had went into Apple's Music Memos. When Apple retired it, I kept thinking about what it could have become. So I built Music Dawn, a personal vault for song ideas, made for musicians, singers and dreamers.
Sometimes a rough recording sends a good idea straight to the trash. In Music Dawn every take plays back through EQ, compression, a warm plate reverb and a master, for free, so you hear what the idea could become. The goal is to give your ideas enough of a push that you take them into a DAW or a studio, instead of letting them fade.
Also in there:
• A tuner, and a headphone click that stays out of the take
• A waveform that draws a landscape from your song. Every song looks different.
• iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, synced through your own iCloud. No account.
• Easy import from Voice Memos, so your old ideas come along
• Settings to dig into if you like: recording quality, which mic, mono or stereo
Most people will never need more than the free app. Pro adds presets for vocals and piano, noise removal, every effect, your own effect chains, hearing yourself live with effects while you sing, and chord, key and BPM detection (beta).
