In Brazil, food ordering doesn't happen on apps - it happens on WhatsApp. Every pizzeria, burger joint and açaí shop has a phone on the counter buzzing with messages like "one large pizza, half calabresa half four-cheese, stuffed crust, plus a 2L Coke, deliver to Flores St. 123, change for 100". Someone has to read that, type it or scribble it on paper, and hand it to the kitchen - during Friday-night rush, with the phone still buzzing. [I saw this up close when - conte aqui como você conheceu o problema: um cliente, um parente com pizzaria, sua própria experiência.] Every mistranscribed order costs around R$30 (about $6) in wasted ingredients, redelivery and an angry customer - and the worst part is the orders that never get answered at all because the counter is slammed. The insight behind Mandou Virou ("You sent it, it turned into an order") was that nobody in this market wants another app. Customers won't change how they order, and owners won't retrain staff. So we made the phone itself disappear from the workflow: the customer writes naturally on WhatsApp, and 3 seconds later a complete ticket - items, extras, address, payment, change - prints on the thermal printer the restaurant already owns. Nobody types anything. How did your approach or process evolve? We started thinking the hard part was printing. It wasn't - it was understanding. Real customers write orders in gloriously messy Portuguese: half-and-half pizzas, "no onions but extra cheddar", combos with upgrades, "change for 100". So most of our work shifted into interpreting natural messages against each restaurant's menu rules (sizes, flavors, add-on pricing) and getting the ticket right every time. Two other things we learned from the [150+] establishments using it today: support hardware people already have (58mm and 80mm thermal printers over USB, Ethernet or Bluetooth - never sell hardware), and make setup take minutes, because a pizzeria owner configuring software at 11pm after closing has zero patience left. That's also why we do a 7-day free trial with no credit card: in this market, trust is earned by the printer going brrrr, not by a sales call.

Who hunted Mandou Virou?

Mandou Virou was hunted by Fernando de Campos Machado. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
