Hi Product Hunt, I'm Sam, and I build Lynx on my own.
This started with my own inbox. I opened Messenger one evening and scrolled past years of old chats: marketplace buyers I never heard from again, group chats for events long over, message requests I had never opened. I wanted most of it gone. Facebook makes you open each conversation, click the menu, choose delete and confirm, and then do it again for the next one. After about twenty I gave up.
That is the problem I wanted to solve. Clearing out Messenger shouldn't take an evening of clicking.
My first version only worked on the Messages page. If you opened the extension anywhere else, it told you to go there first. It worked, but it felt wrong: you had to go somewhere just to start. So I pulled it out and rebuilt it so the extension opens from any Facebook page and shows your chat list right inside it, with a checkbox on every row.
Next came the folders. Old chats aren't only in the Inbox. They sit in Requests, Spam, Archived, Marketplace, Jobs and Communities, so each folder got its own tab.
The last change was about being careful. Deleting can't be undone, so I added Archive as the safer option, and archived chats can be brought back from the Archived tab. Delete asks twice, and the second button waits a moment before it works, so a quick double-click can't delete anything by accident.
It uses Messenger's own delete and archive actions, one chat after another, the same as doing it by hand, just without the clicking. Your messages are never read or sent anywhere.
