Lamp & Line
The Bible, offline: no ads, no account, no AI
Lamp & Line is the complete Berean Standard Bible on iPhone and iPad, stored on the device. It reads offline, asks for no account, shows no ads and collects nothing. Poetry keeps the translators' lines, and search finds a reference or a half-remembered phrase in a fraction of a second. Each day brings a Psalm, a reading and a prayer, on Apple Watch too. Full, one purchase, adds the Hebrew or Greek behind every word and the whole Bible on your wrist.
I made Lamp & Line because the Bible apps I tried felt like feeds with a Bible inside: accounts, streaks, notifications, ads. I wanted the text itself, set well, working with no connection and asking nothing of you.
A few things I'd point another maker at:
- Poetry is typeset with the translators' line breaks, and a long line hangs its continuation beneath, the way a printed psalter does.
- Search runs on the device: "Jn316", "Psalm 23", or the words you half remember.
- Word study, new in 1.6, sets out a verse word by word with the Hebrew or Greek, its grammar and a lexicon entry. It comes from the BSB translators' published tables and STEP Bible's lexicons: no AI, no commentary.
- On Apple Watch it's a reader in its own right, not a companion, and it works with the phone switched off.
- The App Privacy label is Data Not Collected. There is no server.
Reading on iPhone and iPad is free. Full is one purchase, for word study, the whole Bible on the Watch and a few other things. I'd really like to hear what's missing or what gets in the way.
