Kintsugi Pottery: Goldmend

A pottery game where the crack is the point

Throw clay on a wheel, fire it in a kiln, then mend whatever cracks with gold. Goldmend is a pottery game built on kintsugi, the Japanese craft of repairing ceramics with gold: each gold seam adds 40% of the base price to a piece. Twelve written commissions from named patrons, then endless generated ones. Five glazes and nine shapes, all earned by playing. A slow mode switches cracking off. Every sound is synthesised live. Android today, iPhone next.

Hi Product Hunt! Kintsugi is the Japanese craft of repairing broken pottery with gold, so the repair becomes the part people look at. I built a pottery game around that idea, and I made the crack the point instead of the failure. What is in it: - Drag a finger across the spinning clay to match the dashed outline a patron asked for - Pull the wall thin and the crack risk climbs, then the kiln fires it (12 to 34 seconds) - Trace each crack and gold fills it, one leaf per seam. Each seam adds 40% of the base price - 12 written commissions from named patrons, then generated ones with no end. 7 of the 12 ask for gold seams - 5 glazes and 9 shapes, all earned by playing. Slow mode switches cracking off - Every sound is synthesised live, with no audio files What it deliberately is not: a clay-physics simulator (shaping is a one-finger drag against an outline) or a pottery tycoon. There is no energy meter and no subscription. It is free with ads and three optional purchases: gold leaf, silver, copper and platinum seams (colour only), and a longer shelf. Android today, iPhone next. Would you rather keep a pot flawless, or risk it for gold? I would love to hear how you play it.
