This is a unique launch thats part research project, part search utility, part social media platform. We want to explore the human relationship with holidays and film outside of summarized search results. This is a place to discover, learn, and debate. We are running an early Halloween promotional event!
Every year people have the same debates online and around the dinner table during the holidays.. is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Is Nightmare Before Christmas a Halloween or Christmas movie? etc. Of course, for a lot of people the debate is part of the fun, but I think there's something about these debates that often goes overlooked. The debates are an exploration of what a holiday means to a individual on a personal level. What counts as representative of a holiday. What does not.
Holidays are fundamentally human rituals and what we think belongs to them changes as the times change. Certainly, each generation has a different idea of what counts as the quintessential holiday film. A movie that felt like a Christmas movie in 1985, might not in 2045. So I built this site as an ongoing research project to explore this concept. It's intended to be a living archive of how people relate to holidays through film and how that relationship changes over time.
Of course, I wanted the site to have some utility outside of just research as well, so it acts a search engine for holiday movies and will hopefully become the go to site on the internet for settling debates and discovery new films to watch around the holidays.
