FloodMaps

A flood risk X-ray of any Houston or Florida home

Type in any address in Houston or Florida and get its whole flood story in one search. FEMA flood zone, how high the ground sits against the flood line, what flooded nearby in past storms, what insurance costs on similar homes, and what FEMA's draft maps could change. Unlock a home and FloodMaps Monitor stands guard on it for you, emailing you as soon as a flood warning, map change, or appeal deadline hits that address.

Hey PH, Ian here, solo founder out of Houston. I built FloodMaps because finding out whether a house floods shouldn't take a stack of FEMA PDFs and three different county and government websites. Check out a sample report here: https://floodmaps.ai/tx/houston/... Type in an address and you get the whole story in one search—its FEMA flood zone, how high the ground sits against the flood line, what flooded nearby in past storms, what flood insurance costs on similar homes, and what FEMA's draft maps could change. It covers Houston and most of Florida (Florida went live Oct 9). The big new piece is FloodMaps Monitor. Flood maps get redrawn all the time and most owners hear about it from a lender or a jump in their premium. Monitor stands guard on every home you unlock. It watches FEMA notices, flood warnings, river forecasts, heavy rain outlooks, storm surge, and your community's insurance status, then emails you as soon as something touches that address. Map-change alerts are lifetime on any home you unlock, even if you only buy a single report. Searching an address is free with no sign-up. A full report is $7 and unlimited reports for 90 days is $19 (best for house hunters and homebuyers looking at multiple homes). What else should Monitor watch for? Tell me what's missing. And I'm happy to get into how any number is calculated (it's a model, not a survey of your house). Launch day code PHFLOOD7 gets you your first report free (first 20 people).

Who hunted FloodMaps?

FloodMaps was hunted by Ian Smith. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
