Hi Product Hunt 👋 I'm Manuel, one of the people behind Nightly Build Group.

The short version: I switched from Windows years ago and never really got used to Finder. I missed typing a path into the address bar, cutting and pasting files with ⌘X/⌘V, F2 to rename, and having two folders side by side to copy between. So I built the file manager I wished I had.

The name "Nightly Build Group" is pretty literal: we build these things at night, after our day jobs. FileRanger started on September 26 as a weekend project called "Explorer", became "MacScout", and then got rejected by App Review because "Mac" isn't allowed in an app's name. So now it's FileRanger, and it's been on the Mac App Store since mid-October.

What it does:
• Tabs, and any tab splits into two panes (⌘3). F5 copies to the other pane, F6 moves.
• An address bar you can type or paste into (⌘L), with folder autocompletion.
• Live recursive search while you type, including wildcards like *.pdf.
• Real cut and paste that also works with Finder, undo for copy/move/rename/trash, and batch rename with regex and a live preview (⇧F2).
• A right-click menu with things I use every day as a developer: open in editor/terminal, package.json scripts and make targets, Git, JSON format/validate, image conversion, checksums. You can add your own commands in a JSON file, with properly quoted placeholders like {file} and {dir}.

On price: FileRanger is free to download, and you get a free 14-day trial with every feature switched on. After that it's a one-time $9.99 in-app purchase to keep everything working, with no subscription. Without it the app stays a read-only browser: you can still browse, search, preview and open files. If you bought 1.0 earlier, you keep the full version.

Some honest notes: it's SwiftUI and needs macOS 26 on Apple silicon. It's sandboxed because it's on the App Store, so there's an optional "command helper" if you want Homebrew tools and your own scripts to run. No account, no analytics, nothing collected.

I'd love to hear what's missing for you to use it as a daily driver, especially if you also came from Windows or a commander-style file manager.
