Quick backstory: I spend 10+ hours a day at my Mac and I've tried every ambient sound app out there. Endel wanted $50/year. Dark Noise was $50 lifetime with no real menu bar mode. YouTube ate my battery and showed ads every 8 minutes. macOS has 6 built-in sounds that get old fast.
So I built exactly the app I wanted: native Mac, menu bar-first, real spatial audio with AirPods, and a price that doesn't feel like a hostage negotiation.
Some technical choices I'm proud of:
- Built entirely in SwiftUI + AVAudioEngine
- HRTF spatial audio rendering (not fake panning)
- Procedural variation on loops so sounds don't repeat predictably
