Dossier v1

Tailored resumes and cover letters, on your own server

Dossier keeps your career history in one profile. Paste a job posting and it shows how you match, then drafts a tailored resume and cover letter that only use facts from your profile. What's missing shows up as a gap, never as invented experience. Refine them in a chat, download PDFs, and track every application from draft to offer. It runs on your own server with Docker Compose and the AI model you pick, including a local one through Ollama. Free and open source.

Hi Product Hunt! I'm Aien, the maker of Dossier. My wife is a software engineer, and her job search took almost 10 months. There were lots of portals and lots of postings, and tailoring her resume to each one took ages. So I built Dossier for her, to find postings, apply, and get a tailored resume, cover letter and email for each one. She landed a job with it, so I open-sourced it for anyone in the same spot. What it does, on your own server: • One profile, and a tailored resume and cover letter for every job you paste in • A match view that shows what the posting asks for and what your profile covers. Anything missing shows up as a gap: it never invents experience • Refine the drafts in a chat, undo, or go back to any earlier version, then download PDFs • An email to go with each application, ready to send from your mail app • A board, a table and a funnel for every application, from draft to offer • Twelve resume themes and a theme builder • The AI model you choose: a local one through Ollama (then nothing leaves your server), any OpenAI-compatible API, or Anthropic It's free and open source (AGPL-3.0) and runs as two containers with Docker Compose, on a small VPS or your laptop. I'd love your feedback on three things: 1. What would stop you from self-hosting it? 2. Which job source or feature should come next? 3. If you try a local model, which one did you use, and how did the writing hold up? I'll answer every question here.
