DataPallas – Open-Source Self-Hosted BI
Liberating Data, One Database at a Time
DataPallas is a modern self-hosted BI and data platform with AI-powered exploration, dashboards, pivots, and pixel-perfect reporting. A powerful alternative to closed SaaS tools like Tableau, Power BI, Looker, and Crystal Reports — built for teams that want full control over their data and infrastructure.
Everybody agrees that data is one of the most valuable assets a company owns, yet most BI platforms are still closed-source SaaS products. This forces companies to move operational data from their own infrastructure into the cloud just to analyze it.
The problem is not only data sensitivity and compliance. Cloud BI tools also introduce constant ETL pipelines, synchronization jobs, infrastructure overhead, and data duplication simply to keep dashboards up to date. The result is added complexity, stale analytics, slower insights, and higher operational costs — all because the BI layer lives outside the company’s own databases.
I built DataPallas as a modern self-hosted BI and data platform to solve this problem: keeping analytics close to the source data, reducing infrastructure complexity, and enabling real-time insights without unnecessary data movement.
For an easy tutorial on building dashboards, check out the blog post below. This example focuses on algorithmic trading analytics, but DataPallas can (very well) power dashboards and reports for ERP, CRM, finance, accounting, and other operational systems.
