CVE Playground

Practice real CVEs. Think like an attacker.

cveplayground.com is a hands-on platform built to help people actually understand real-world vulnerabilities. The goal is simple, learn vulnerabilities by thinking through them, not just reading about them.

I’ve always felt there was a gap between reading about vulnerabilities and actually understanding them deeply. Most security learning platforms are crowded with many different cybersecurity topics, certifications, or generic CTF challenges, but very few are focused specifically on real-world CVEs. Meanwhile, new CVEs are constantly emerging every day, and many platforms struggle to keep up with them or turn them into practical learning experiences. That’s what inspired me to build cveplayground. The goal was to create a platform where people can learn vulnerabilities the same way security researchers often do: * Read the vulnerable code * Understand the root cause * Reproduce the issue in a safe environment * Analyze the patch * Learn the mitigation Instead of only solving isolated challenges, users work through real disclosed vulnerabilities and understand how the bug actually happened. While building the platform, the process evolved quite a bit. Initially, I thought it would mostly be a collection of interactive exploit labs. But while working on it, I realized the real value was in the learning flow itself. The platform became much more focused on guided reasoning, patch analysis, and helping users think through vulnerabilities step-by-step instead of simply “getting a shell.” A big challenge was making the labs educational without overwhelming people. I wanted the experience to feel approachable for learners while still being technically meaningful for experienced pentesters and AppSec engineers. Launching the first guided lab feels like a huge milestone, and I’m excited to keep improving it based on community feedback.
