Crime Brasil
Open crime data for Brazil — neighborhood-level in RS
Crime Brasil is an open-data platform for Brazilian crime statistics. Neighborhood-level coverage in Rio Grande do Sul (2.99M incidents, 497 municipalities, 79,024 neighborhoods, 99.99% geocoded), plus municipality-level data for MG, RJ, and national PRF/DATASUS sources. Free REST API, CSV/Parquet, daily updates, CC BY 4.0. All we ask is a credit link back.
Hey Product Hunt,
I built Crime Brasil because Brazilian crime data is scattered across state-police PDFs and CSVs with inconsistent formats and no geocoding. Journalists and researchers spend weeks cleaning data before they can ask the real questions.
Crime Brasil does the boring work:
- Daily scraping of official sources
- Geocoding + normalization (neighborhood-level where available, municipality level otherwise)
- Consistent categories across years and jurisdictions
- Free REST API, CSV/Parquet downloads, daily updates
What we have:
→ Rio Grande do Sul: 2.99M incidents (2022–2025), 497 municipalities, 79,024 neighborhoods, 99.99% geocoded — the only state we currently have at neighborhood level
→ Minas Gerais: 965K violent incidents (municipality-level)
→ Rio de Janeiro: 37K ISP/CISP records (municipality-level)
→ National transit accidents (PRF DATATRAN 2020–2026)
→ National interpersonal violence (DATASUS SINAN 2009–2024)
→ Freedom-of-information requests filed in 14 states
It's 100% free, no account needed, no paywall. If you build anything with this (civic tech, journalism tools, research), use it freely — all I ask is a credit link back to crimebrasil.com.br when you do.
What I'd love feedback on:
- API design (endpoints, filters, rate limits)
- Which states to publish next
- Use cases I should prioritize
