ClonePeek
Review hidden repo hooks before running unfamiliar code
ClonePeek is a free, MIT-licensed, offline Python CLI and GitHub Action that inventories commands configured to run through npm lifecycle scripts, VS Code folder-open tasks, devcontainers, Cursor and Claude Code hooks, and local MCP server launches. It reports trigger, source, and review advice in text, JSON or SARIF without executing target scripts. Cross-platform Python 3.10+, no runtime dependencies. A heuristic checklist, not a malware detector or sandbox.
I'm the ClonePeek maintainer. I started this after a regression test showed that a supposedly read-only Git operation could invoke a local filesystem-monitor helper. The tool now checks known first-run execution hooks without executing project code. It's intentionally a bounded, heuristic review aid—not a guarantee a repo is safe. I'd especially value harmless config examples we miss or overflag. Source, tests, limits and examples are public on GitHub.

Who hunted ClonePeek?
ClonePeek was hunted by Harshit Sharma. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it.
