CityBin
Waste sorting connecting residents, associations and towns
CityBin connects residents, associations and local authorities around waste sorting. The app (iOS and Android) gives your municipality's sorting guidelines based on your address, a map of bins and recycling centres, barcode scanning and reports to your local authority. With the console, municipalities publish their own guidelines and follow each report until it is closed, with no sensors to install. Associations get a free platform: events, QR code check-in, waste characterisation.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Jacques, founder of PlasticApp, based in Ajaccio, France.
Which bin does this packaging go in? The answer depends on where you live. Residents, associations and local authorities usually work with separate tools, or none at all. CityBin puts them on the same data: the guideline the local authority publishes is the one residents see, and the clean-ups associations organise show up in the app.
• The CityBin app (iOS and Android): your municipality's sorting guidelines based on your address, a map of bins and recycling centres, barcode scanning, and reports to your local authority (broken bin, illegal dumping, request) with photo and geolocation.
• The CityBin console, for municipalities and inter-municipalities: the local authority publishes its own guidelines and follows each report until it is closed. No sensors, no hardware to install on bins.
• The associations platform, free: events, QR code check-in, characterisation of the waste collected.
Today we are at the Taghazout Surf Expo in Morocco (22 to 25 October) for the public launch of CityBin in Taghazout. The municipality configured its first local sorting guidelines in the CityBin console on 17 September, and during the event we equip a beach clean-up with local associations: registration in the app, QR code check-in, and a report with figures published within 48 hours.
I'd love your feedback on the app, and on how sorting works where you live!

Who hunted CityBin?
CityBin was hunted by Jacques Battini. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
