Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm the maker of Benthic. Everyone tells you to "just contribute to open source." Then they hand you a fork button and wish you luck. I tried to get into it myself and couldn't find a single place that actually taught the hard part — and the hard part isn't the code. It's rebasing under pressure, reading a review without taking it personally, working out what a licence actually obliges you to do, and picking a project that will even merge your work. I taught myself the slow, embarrassing way, and kept thinking: someone should build the thing I wish I'd had. So I did. Benthic is practice for the part of open source that isn't code — 188 problems across three difficulty depths, real shell prompts and judgment calls instead of multiple-choice trivia, plus a directory of 30 vetted projects to graduate onto when you're ready for the real thing. The first 20 problems are free, no account needed. Start here: benthic.online I built all of it solo — product, content — so I genuinely want to know where it's rough. What made sense? What didn't? What's missing? Every reply gets read and most turn into fixes. Thanks for checking it out 🐟
